Kickin' it in Ellijay
For the past two years, I have made my way up to Crisfield Maryland to attend the CCA Maryland RedTrout Tournament. While the tournament is geared towards redfish and seatrout, I always try to focus on catching rockfish, also known as striper or stripped bass. Last year, I invited Ty to come along for the trip; but big fish aren't around when that tournament takes place, so Ty and I had been talking about doing a trip up when the big boys were around.
Enter Eric Crowley... Eric Crowley grew up in Miami but has spent his adult life guiding the waters of Ellijay for trout and striper. He invited Ty and I to come up to try to get on some big stripers up in his waters. We made the drive up for a couple days of fishing and had a blast. It was insane seeing such large striper come up to the surface to feed at first light. I managed to catch my first big striper, up until this, my largest was about 27" caught in Chesapeake Bay Maryland. This fish was MUCH larger than that!
Crowley came through! He got us set up at an awesome cabin near the fishing grounds, so it was an easy commute in the am.
I had to bring an espresso maker with me, if we are waking up at 3am to hit the water, I need some Cuban coffee!
The imagery out there was incredible, here are a few more shots:
